At 10, he played in the AAU national championship game and has been named MVP of Michael Jordans basketball camp. This soulja boy gots game. Hookt: How did you like NBA All-Star Weekend? Lil Rome: It was fun. I was just watching the game and shot a few shots. I just kicked back and talked with all my cousins and stuff, The Baby Soilders. H: We hear that you like the NBA a lot, was that your first time going to All-Star? LR: Yeah, it was. I usually watch it on TV. H: We might see your pops up in there real soon, right? Master P: Oh yeah, he came to a couple of my games, when I was playing with Toronto. So he got a chance to know Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady. He know a lot of NBA players. H: Rome is nice in B-Ball but on the music side he is definitly following your footsteps by surprising you with a rhyme he wrote MP: When you in that situation where you got talent, he in that type of enviornment where he and the producers be doing stuff. He never brought any music to me. One time I just heard it from one of the producers. I was like, "Whos that?" I knew then that he had all the tools to go with it. I asked him what was he interested in doing. Basketball he likes, but school and education comes first. Some people can be mulit-talented which is how he is. I was going to check it out and go from there and put him on. H: How long did it take for you to write that rhyme? Where you trying to impress your dad? LR: Me and a my cousins just go listen to the beats and go write songs. Im always the first one done with mine, so I always do the first verse. H: You mention your cousins a lot, are they in the industry? LR: We rap a lot, Donovan "D-Dog", Fred "K-9", and "C-Los" Carlos MP: These are like our reletives, these are like all the little kids from my auntie. They all around the same ages, 10, 11, 12. They always be by the house. They know Rome got all kind of equiptment and stuff, they hook it up and start doing it. They formed a lil group called the Y.Ts. It stands for Young Thugs. We gon do something with them after the Rome record. H: What was it like putting your album together? You saw your dad do it a lot. LR: I used to watch him a lot a long time ago, like when I was 5 years old. I used to talk on the intros, I couldnt barely talk. It was fun. H: Its more like work now or is it still fun? LR: Its work and fun. When you have to work you have to work. You have to mean your music, be enthusiastic about it. The fun is making fake videos to look at. H: What the best part of the job to you? Interviews, shows or shooting videos? LR: Probably the videosno the performance and the video is the best. MP: AND GETTING PAID! (laughs) H: Where have you performed? MP: Hes performing on Soul Train this week. LR: We just practicing right now. Getting ready. H: What kind of advice has Pops given you? LR: Stay on rhythm. H: Whats up with that collabo with Lil Bow Wow? LR: We about to do a song this week. MP: They friends so they always talk on the phone. H: Thats with Beats By The Pound? MP: We aint with BBTP, we Soulja Music now. There is no more Beats By The Pound. Jermaine Dupri is doing the Bow Wow song. H: Any final comments to the lil shorties out there?
